There’s nothing like a calm, cold October morning to get your photography senses tingling! This lake is just a couple of kilometres from our house so it’s a favourite place to go for an early morning photo shoot. Cold on the fingers but warm to the heart!
Indian Falls Park is a small but gorgeous municipal park in Lunenburg County. The fall colours were incredible the day we were there! Plus, they have the cleanest washrooms I’ve ever seen at a park!
We stopped at Church lake on the way back from Indian Falls Park and were we glad we did! The next three images were all captured within a few feet of each other. I would have been happy with just one of them but I got very lucky this time! I guess you could say I won the trifecta.
I’ve always admired these gnarly trees on numerous visits to Cranberry Cove but I never had the right conditions for a good photo until this trip. It’s amazing how these hardy coastal trees survive extremes of weather on poor quality soil.
It’s always worth hanging around after a sunset because you often get interesting light during so-called “blue hour.” I like how the dark conditions give this image a menacing feeling.
I was on my way home from a photo trip to Peggy’s Cove when I spotted this scene. I turned the car around and grabbed my camera. I like how the leaves create a natural frame for the gorgeous autumn scene beyond.
One of my favourite places to shoot fall foliage and it’s just a few kilometres from my home. The light from the setting sun cast a pleasing golden glow over the landscape. I’ll be getting this one printed on canvas to hang in my study.
This scene was just a few minutes down the trail from the previous location. I liked how the patch of lichen created a natural “leading line” toward the clump of birch trees. I only had a couple of minutes to take the shot before the sun went down below the horizon and everything went into shadow.
Experienced landscape photographers will tell you to make sure you look behind you when you’re shooting a scene because there might be something interesting there. That was definitely the case this evening! I was returning to my car after shooting a sunset when I stopped to look behind me and saw this. I like it better than any of my sunset photos I shot that evening! Everything took on a pink glow before darkness fell. It was amazing!
There’s a small beach that I frequently visit during sunset because the setting sun often lights up the scene with a beautiful golden glow. I got lucky this time as a weather system was approaching while the sun was setting so there were some amazing clouds in the sky. Was it worth an hour’s drive in rush hour traffic? Yup!
Thank you for visiting my website! I hope you enjoyed the images and the stories behind them.
