Here are some of the most popular images from my Facebook Page for the month of December. Landscapes, woodlands, some black and white and even a couple of wave photos make up this month’s gallery. Enjoy!

It’s amazing how a light dusting of snow turns a drab landscape into a gorgeous winter scene. I like how the zoom lens brings the elements of the scene close together making for a pleasing composition.

If you’re not opposed to getting up early during the winter solstice you can capture the sun rising over Halifax Harbour’s NW Arm. The Dingle Tower on the right commemorates Nova Scotia’s achievement of representative government in 1758.

I call this photo Two Sisters as the larch/ tamarack trees remind me of an older sister looking out for her younger one.

I took this photo because the reflection of the trees in the partly frozen lake caught my eye. I edited it as a black and white as there was very little colour in the scene as it was an overcast day. I think the B&W edit really brings out the textures of the snow covered trees.

I like how the fir tree stands alone amid the surrounding oak trees in this winter landscape.

The young hemlock tree appears to be protected by the much older ones at Halifax’s Hemlock Ravine Park. It’s a great place to wander around with a camera during a snowstorm!

There was a brief moment of magical light as the setting sun poked out from behind the clouds and lit up the trees across the lake. It only lasted a brief moment and then it was gone.

Round Lake, Jerry Lawrence Provincial Park

I spotted this postcard-like scene during a dog walk after a recent snowstorm. The woods are eerily quiet after a blanket of snow is draped across the landscape.

A sunrise photo shoot is always on the agenda at this time of the year since the sun rises at a more respectable hour than in the summer. The sky wasn’t very exciting this morning but the wave action made up for it! Unfortunately the waves were higher than my rubber boots but fortunately my buddy Kevin always has a spare pair of socks in his trunk.

Winterberry bushes catching the morning sun provided an eye-popping burst of colour on the brown winter landscape. The side lighting really accentuates the layers on the landscape.

One of my all time favourite winter photos from March, 2016.
