Here are some of the most popular images from my Facebook Page for the month of September. Landscapes, birds, even a cheeky porcupine make up this month’s gallery. Enjoy!

The Peggy’s Cove lighthouse is an iconic Canadian landmark. I wanted a painterly image so I headed out during blue hour and used a special filter to allow me to keep my camera’s shutter open for ten seconds to turn the ocean waves into wispy tendrils. I’m really pleased with the result.

I was at the beach photographing a lighthouse when I noticed some semipalmated plovers running around the sand searching for tasty morsels. This fellow was kind enough to pose for a portrait shot. The late afternoon light adds a nice golden glow to the image.

I was trying to capture a photo of this chickadee as he was flitting about the trees when he suddenly flipped upside down. I was lucky that I was ready as it only lasted a couple of seconds before he flew away. It almost looks like he’s doing chin ups.

I had to kayak to a dark area on the lake to capture this photo of the Milky Way Galaxy core. I like how the colourful kayak adds an interesting element to the story.

This female cardinal was waiting patiently for me to leave so she could visit a friend’s bird feeder. I’d love to know what she was thinking. Or maybe not.

I love asters! They begin blooming as other flowers are dying off in late summer. These hardy plants seem to be able to grow anywhere. I’ve seen them happily growing in piles of gravel and even in beach sand!

I drive past this fishing shed en route to Peggy’s Cove. I’ve photographed it dozens of times in all kinds of weather but this is one of my favourite as the calm water enabled me to capture a great reflection. I’m a sucker for a great reflection!

A young porcupine spent most of the summer pruning the trees on our property. Fortunately we have a lot of trees so the damage is minimal. I suspect that the trees will be even more lush next year as Mother Nature has a way of making everything work.

Look at those chompers!

We were returning from a dog walk when I noticed the tops of the trees lit up by the setting sun. The reflection of the trees in the lake was a bonus. It only lasted a few minutes before everything was dark and flat looking.

Splash! I learned this trick from an old newspaper photographer (remember newspapers?). It took a few tries before the rock landed in the right place.
