Here are some of the most popular images from my Facebook Page for the month of August. A lot of birds, a few landscapes, a chipmunk and a flower make up this month’s gallery. Enjoy!

I shot this image from a kayak using a powerful zoom lens. I like how the side lighting gives the heron a three dimensional look. I also posted a B&W version of this on my Facebook page but most people preferred the colour version. I really like the reflection!

Great Blue Heron, Lunenburg County

We spotted this heron as we were driving along a coastal highway just after sunset. I figure he was roosting here for the night. I’m amazed whenever I see a heron in a tree – they look like they don’t belong.

I played peekaboo with this Northern Flicker as he was flitting about the trees searching for a yummy insect. Fortunately he stopped for a brief moment to check me out and that’s when I was able to rattle off a few photos. This is one of my favourites.

We put out a large blueberry to see what the chipmunk would do with it. He didn’t bother to stuff it in his pouch, he just sat on his haunches and gobbled it down like it was the best treat ever!

There was a hurricane churning off the Atlantic coast so I headed to my favourite location to shoot the waves. I love their explosive power as they crash against the rocks! I used a zoom lens as I didn’t want to be anywhere near the water while this was happening.

My buddy Kevin and I were returning from a day of photographing herons when we stopped to capture this scene along the LaHave River in Lunenburg County. I love a dramatic sunset!

Cranberry Lake is just a short drive from our home. There’s a trail along the shore that we love to hike with our dog Suzy. This was the scene just before the sun went down.

This little barred owl dropped by to take a nap on our fence. I took advantage of his sleepiness to rattle off a few photos. Don’t you just want to pick him up and squeeze him?

I like to look for novel ways to photograph common objects, like this backside view of a Brown Eyed Susan. Look closely and you’ll see an insect perched on one of the petals.

I could see this little warbler flitting about the treetops but she wouldn’t stay still long enough for me to capture a photo. Until she did! She’s probably halfway to Cuba by now.

I love chickadees! They seem to have a wonderful sense of humour as they go about their business. They appear to be equally comfortable right side up or upside down. This fellow twisted to give me a once over as he was searching for a tasty insect on a pine tree.

Bald eagles always look angry! This fellow seemed especially angry as he tried to stare me down from the top of a pine tree. I respected his wishes and got out of Dodge after capturing his photo.
