Here are some of the most popular images from my Facebook Page for the month of February. The main theme this month was snow and ice, however there’s an image from a sandy beach thrown in… I guess people enjoyed seeing it during the middle of winter.
Enjoy!

One of my favourite photo locations – a small brook along the rail trail in Fox Hollow, Upper Tantallon. I had to slide down a snowy bank to capture this image not an easy feat for an old guy! I love how the brook meanders through the snow covered boulders!

The shadows of the trees created some eye-catching shapes on the fresh snow in Halifax’s Public Gardens. Can you see the person beside the lamp post in the centre of the photo? I had to wait about 5 minutes for someone to reach that spot so I could add them to the story.

I like how this stand of poplar trees seems to be protected from the elements by the surrounding evergreens.

I really like how the edge of the sidewalk creates a curve that leads your eye right up to the famous Peggy’s Cove lighthouse. I shot this in the middle of a howling snowstorm. My lens kept getting covered with snow so I had to turn my back on the scene, get everything ready and then turn around and quickly compose and take the shot. I’m glad it worked out as well as it did!

This photo was captured during the same snowstorm as the previous one. I shot this from the viewing platform that would usually be crowded with tourists but I was the only one there! My buddy Kevin was off to the left shooting the lighthouse from a different vantage point.
I wanted a panoramic view but my wide angle lens was back at the car and it was too miserable to walk back to get it! Instead, I took 5 separate images and stitched them together to get this perspective.

I was strolling along Cleveland Beach near Hubbards when I noticed patterns carved in the sand by the receding tide. This one reminded me of an angel in a flowing robe.

We haven’t been able to walk on the lake for a few years as our winters have been too mild. This year was an exception – it’s been cold for an extended period so the lake is like concrete!
Suzy’s a reluctant model but I managed to capture a photo of her in the setting sun as she kept an eye out for aggressive squirrels. Look at that shadow!

This stately larch/ tamarack is one of my favourite trees to photograph! I usually shoot it from 0.5 km away with my telephoto lens but this year I was able to walk across the frozen lake and shoot it up close. I like how the grey sky and the blowing snow create a nice background that helps it pop! Location: Cranberry Lake, Hubley.

. I took this photo with a telephoto lens as I wanted to capture the tiny isolated island surrounded by fog and ice. I didn’t know that there was a bald eagle perched on top until I viewed it on my computer – what a pleasant surprise! It’s like the cherry on top of the sundae

Weather forecasters predicted a few hours of snow followed by a torrential downpour so I grabbed my camera and headed out to get some snow shots before it all washed away. Here are three images from along the rail trail in Fox Hollow, Upper Tantallon. I was the only one out on the trail. As the saying goes, if you want original images you need to go out when others stay at home!
