Here are some of the most popular images from my Facebook Page for the month of December. A few woodland scenes, waves, crows, a squirrel and even a cat are included in this month’s lineup. Enjoy!

My wife puts food out for a family of crows that come by daily looking for a handout. Two of them kept vigil over a sickly old crow for days before it finally passed away.

I love how fog adds depth to a woodland image. I asked people on my Facebook Page to choose which photo they preferred – colour or B&W. Interestingly, the votes were just about even. This image was taken at York Redoubt National Historic Site just outside Halifax.

I asked this little Red Squirrel to strike a cute pose and I’d give him a peanut. I’d say he earned it!

My buddy Kevin and I frequently go to Duncan’s Cove at the mouth of Halifax Harbour to shoot waves. It’s especially great when there’s a brisk offshore wind to lift the spray off the tops of the waves. I like how two of them line up with the rock on the shore in this image.

Sambro Island is about 3 km off the coast so you need a very long lens to capture the waves in front of it. I was shooting directly into the sun so the lighthouse is very dark but the backlit wave stands out quite well creating a very dramatic scene. I see a white stallion rising from the deep – what do you see?

The frost on the trees was lit up by the rising sun on this chilly December morning on Frederick Lake.

This gnarly old camperdown elm tree in Dartmouth Cemetery makes a great subject. Throw in a bunch of snow and you’ve got a winner! The B&W conversion works well in this case as it adds a dramatic effect to the image.

My neighbour has cleared away all the undergrowth in his yard and planted grass. It looks ugly in the summer but a dusting of snow makes for a compelling woodland image. It was tricky trying to find the right place to shoot so that none of the tree trunks overlapped each other.

His name is TJ and he’s an instigator. We call him The Shenanigans Kid. He was playing hide and seek with me in the yard when I captured this photo.

They say that the best camera is the one you have with you. All I had with me was my iPhone but I couldn’t resist when I saw the rainbow reflected in the lake. I took this at Jerry Lawrence Provincial Park in Upper Tantallon.
